Why dinner isn't in the tango house
El Viejo Almacén's historic 1769 building is a compact former general store — there simply isn't room inside it for a full working kitchen and a sit-down dinner service on top of an orchestra, four dance couples, two singers and a folklore group. Dinner is instead served in the restaurant building across Balcarce street, with guests crossing over once the meal is finished rather than eating in the same room where the show later takes place.
The three-course menu
The dining ticket includes a three-course Argentine menu, timed to finish comfortably before the 22:00 show across the street. The exact dishes vary with the season and with the kitchen's own rotating menu, so it's worth checking the current offering when you book if you have strong preferences — the format (starter, main, dessert) is consistent even when the specific plates change.
What's included to drink
Two drinks are included through the meal — a choice of wine, beer, water or soft drinks, poured as part of the standard dining package rather than charged separately at the table. A VIP tier of the ticket adds spirits on top of that and generally comes with a table positioned closer to the stage once the group crosses for the show.
Vegetarian, vegan and children
Vegetarian and vegan options are available, along with a children's menu, but they need to be requested at the time of booking rather than chosen at the table on the night. Because the kitchen works to one sitting for the whole dining room, the easiest dietary accommodations are the ones the kitchen already knows about in advance, rather than substitutions worked out on the spot.
Skipping dinner entirely
A cheaper show-only ticket skips the restaurant altogether and seats you directly in the historic room for the 22:00 show, on the same GetYourGuide listing as the dinner-inclusive option. It's a useful choice if you'd rather eat earlier or later at one of San Telmo's many other restaurants, or if the roughly two extra hours a full dinner adds don't suit your evening.
San Telmo before or after
San Telmo's own restaurant scene runs for blocks around Balcarce and Independencia, so show-only guests have plenty of options for an earlier or later meal nearby, and dining guests looking for a coffee or a nightcap after the 23:30 curtain won't have to walk far to find one either.
